I'm Happy Sad Together Book by Lory Britain (www.lorybritain.com)
At last! A book to help young children understand and express their complex and sometimes conflicted feelings without having to choose between one feeling or the other. Using developmentally appropriate language and issues that children can identify with, "I'm Happy Sad Together" speaks to the inner world of the young child and gives them concrete tools and ways to express themselves.
Amazon Reviews I am a parent and a teacher in a therapeutic early childhood classroom. I've come across a lot of books that help children understand their emotions, and this one is my definitely my favorite. My 3 1/2 year old son delighted in the funny word combinations (ex. "smad" = sad and mad), and it got him thinking about how feelings do not always come one at a time. I feel that over several readings, this book has taken him to a new level of emotional awareness. I am thankful to Lory for her writing, which is perfectly geared for preschoolers, and for her lovely illustrations as well.
Another review. I shared this book with one of my students, a kindergartener with autism, and he said, "This is the best book ever!" I also shared it with a whole kindergarten class and they made many deep and personal connections to the text and illustrations. This book is a must have for teachers, therapists and parents of young children!
All children are faced with confusing, conflicted, and ambivalent feelings during situations ranging from the “every day” such as that first sleep over to complex situations involving abuse, especially from a known adult. Already therapists that work with young children are asking for it to help children during challenging situations. Please forward inquiries regarding this book via Amazon or the Authors sites. Thanks
